The Edinburgh practice's architectural work is mainly Industrial, for many different locations both within the United Kingdom and overseas. However, they have completed various projects for other sectors such as residential and office builds.

The Edinburgh office currently have around 200 members of staff which is made up of various different fields. The architectural team is made up of a variety of members with different skill sets, with Directors, Architects, Senior Technicians and myself.

Project

Oil Rig Up Centre

Year:

2017 - Present

Location:

Dammam, Saudi Arabia

Sector

The project consisted of the design of a Land Rig Product Centre.

This included the design of the site layout, along with the design of 12 different buildings of varying scales. The buildings were made up of various workshop production spaces for the Rig up Pads, along with various Administration Offices.

Throughout most of my time working for Aecom I was heavily involved in this particular project working on RIBA Stages such as Concept Design all the way through to Technical Design.

With the practice using Revit as their main BIM tool I was given the task of constructing the 3D architectural models for 2 of the main workshop buildings.

As the project was a multi disciplinary scheme, it allowed me to directly work with the other disciplines, in particular with the engineering teams.

Industrial/Office

My main roles throughout the project was to construct the 3D computer models for the various buildings, as well as making any design amendments to the architectural drawings. As the project was a multi disciplinary scheme, client meetings were held with all teams, to discuss issues and design changes. As this was a very large scale scheme there was constantly changes occurring, with the design elements of the architectural package changing almost every week after receiving comments back from the client.

With my knowledge of rendering softwares I was also given the full responsibility of producing render images of various buildings in the scheme for both the external and internal spaces. As well as creating the render images, I also helped to produce a VR view of the whole site and inside the three main buildings. This would enable the client to look around the whole scheme in its three dimensional form using a VR headset.

This project consisted of the design of a Engine manufacturing facility for a well known car manufacturer.

The plant will produce four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines for the manufacturers passenger cars. The factory launch will increase the company’s manufacturing capacity in Eastern Europe.

Throughout most of my time working for Aecom I was involved in this particular project working on the fifth RIBA stage, with the build being in its construction stage. As the project was based in Poland, this also meant all drawings that i created had to be translated to Polish for the use of the contractors on site.

As the project was based in Poland, it allowed me to directly work with some of the other architectural teams who were also working on the project. This included the Poland office as well as the South African Architectural team.

Measured Building Survey

Year:

2018

Location:

Fife, Scotland

Sector

The project consisted of a full measured survey for a large scale industrial oil company.

This included a full measured survey of the main administration building as well as some workshop spaces.

During this survey I worked with another member of my team, where we both went on site for a period of one week where we fully measured both the internal and external spaces.

Using the measurements collected between us we completed a full architectural package to send to the client. This included all plans, sections and elevations along with a current conditions survey on the buildings, assessing its existing problems and risks.

Industrial/Office

This project consisted of the design of a depot for a worldwide courier company.

I was involved in this particular project working on the bid proposal for two different depot facilities to be built. These were both in the concept design RIBA stage.

The proposals for the bid changed a number of times throughout the conceptual design process, with a change in external cladding design as well as a relocation to a different site.

I aided in producing images to be submitted along with plans for the site and the building plan as part of a larger bid proposal.
